The Trinity Ice Hockey Trojans will now prepare for their final pre-season scrimmage of the season against the North Olmsted Eagles after dropping a 4-3 contest to the Meadville Pa. Bulldogs last Saturday night in Meadville.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead, but the Trojans came back to tie the contest 2-2 during the second period on goals by Shaun Schmitt and Rich Tropf. Both goals were products of the Trojan special teams. The first, Schmitt's, was a power play goal while Tropf's was a short-handed goal. The short-handed goal was the team's second in two games, with Tropf also netting a goal against the Kent Roosevelt Roughriders earlier in the week.
Meadville came back and regained a one goal lead just before the end of the second period.
The Trojans tied the game a second time midway through the third period as Mark Ferfolia Jr tallied on a pass from Kyle Konczos. But, Meadville converted on an opportunity with just 3:11 left in the game to take the 4-3 victory.
"It was a solid performance for only our second pre-season game of the year", said head coach Mark Ferfolia. "I was pleased at our efforts and think that we have made solid progress in our first week of practice", he continued.
Trinity now will face North Olmsted in a controlled scrimmage on Sunday the 20th at 3:15pm. "The game will be a scripted scrimmage", said Ferfolia. "Coach Murphy of North Olmsted and I want to have the opportunity to work on many different situations, like power plays, 4-4, 5-3, and the like. So we will set up those situations and get some solid work on them. It will also give us a chance to see our younger players work in those situations which they might not see in a normal varsity game this year".
After that contest, the Trojans will open up their regular season in a Thanksgiving tournament in Toledo's Tam-O-Shanter facility. The varsity icers will face Centerville and Sylvania Northview as well as conference opponent Mentor.
